Italian Jobless Rate Unexpectedly Falls to 11.4% in July


The unemployment rate in Italy decreased to 11.4 percent in July of 2016 from 11.6 percent in the previous month and below market expectations of 11.6 percent. The number of unemployed persons fell 1.3 percent to 2,944 thousand while employment also declined by 0.3 percent to 22,765 thousand.

The number of unemployed people fell 1.3 percent to 2,944 million and those detached from the labour force increased 0.4 percent to 13,644 million. Employment declined 0.3 percent to reach 22,765 thousand, following increase in the previous months (0.3 percent in June). As a result, the employment rate edged down by 0.1 percent to 57.3 percent. 

Youth unemployment rate increased to 39.2 percent from 37.3 percent in June.
