Euro Area Inflation Rate Stable in August


Consumer prices in the Eurozone are expected to rise 0.2 percent year-on-year in August, the same as in the previous two months and well below the ECB's 2 percent.

Looking at the main components, food, alcohol & tobacco (1.2 percent, compared with 0.9 percent in July) and services (1.2 percent, stable compared with July) are expected to have the highest annual rate in August, followed by non-energy industrial goods (0.6 percent, compared with 0.4 percent in July). In contrast, energy prices are expected to fall at a faster pace (-7.1 percent, compared with -5.6 percent in July).

Core inflation rate which excludes prices of energy, food, alcohol and tobacco is expected to remain steady at 1 percent.

Excluding energy, consumer prices rose 1.1 percent, higher than 0.9 percent in the previous month.
