Euro Area Inflation Rate Continues to Slow


Euro area annual inflation is expected to be 0.3 percent in August, down from 0.4 percent in July, according to a flash estimate from Eurostat. It is the lowest rate since October of 2009.

Looking at the main components of euro area inflation, services is expected to have the highest annual rate in August (1.2 percent, compared with 1.3 percent in July), followed by non-energy industrial goods (0.3 percent, compared with 0.0 percent in July), food, alcohol & tobacco (-0.3 percent, stable compared with July) and energy (-2.0 percent, compared with -1.0 percent in July).

Core inflation rate, which strips out prices of food, energy, alcohol and tobacco is expected to accelerate to 0.9 percent from 0.8 percent in July.
