Russian Unemployment Down to 5.3% in July


In July, Russia's unemployment was down to 5.3 percent from 5.4 percent both in the previous month and in July of 2012. The number of unemployed decreased to 4.01 million people from 4.09 million in the previous month.

In July, Russia's economically active population rose to 75.8 million people from 75.5 million in June, and represents about 53 percent of the total population of the country. The total number of employed reached 69.7 million, of which 47.6 percent (or 34.0 million) were either part-time or small businesses employees.  

The number of officially registered unemployed, at 950 thousand persons, decreased by 13 percent when compared to the same month a year earlier and by 2.6 percent from a month earlier.
