Irish Jobless Rate Unchanged at 7.8% in July


Irish seasonally adjusted unemployment rate came in at 7.8 percent in July 2016, unchanged from the June rate and down from 9.2 percent a year earlier. It remained at its lowest level since October 2008.

The seasonally adjusted number of persons unemployed was 169,100, unchanged when compared to the June 2016 figure or a decrease of 29,800 when compared to July 2015. 

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for males was recorded to 9.1 percent, unchanged from the previous month and down from 10.6 percent a year earlier; while for females it was recorded at 6.2 percent, the same as in June and down from 7.6 percent in the same month of the previous year. The number of males unemployed dropped by 100 to 107,900 from the previous month, while the number of females unemployed increased by 100 to 61,200.

Youth unemployment rate rose to 16 percent, up from 15.4 percent in June.
