German Labour Market Unchanged in June


The number of unemployed in Germany stood at 2.16 million and seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was unchanged at 5.1% in June of 2014.

Results of the labour force survey show that 2.12 million people were unemployed in June 2014. Compared with June 2013, their number fell by 166,000, or 7.4%, while it remained almost unchanged on May 2014. It increased by not more than 2,000 persons (0.0%). 

In June 2014, roughly 42.1 million persons resident in Germany were in employment according to provisional calculations of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). Compared with June 2013, this was an increase of 379,000 persons or 0.9%. Hence, the year-on-year rate of growth was as high as in May. In June 2014, roughly 2.1 million people were unemployed, 166,000 less than a year earlier. 

According to provisional results of the employment accounts, the number of persons in employment increased very slightly by 12,000 in June 2014 on May of the year. After seasonal adjustment, that is, after the elimination of the usual seasonal fluctuations, the relevant number increased by 16,000 in June 2014 compared with the previous month.
