South Korean Economy Advances 3.6% in Q2


South Korean GDP advanced 3.6 year-on-year in the second quarter of 2014, down from 3.9 percent in the previous period, as all main production sectors slowed except electricity, water and gas supply.

On the production side, only electricity, water and gas supply expanded at a fastest pace (0.7 percent year-on-year in Q2 from 0.4 percent in Q1), according to advance estimates.

Agriculture, forestry and fishing activities grew 3 percent, slowing sharply from a 7.7 percent increase in the previous quarter. Manufacturing production rose at a slower 5.4 percent (5.6 percent in Q1), construction increased 0.9 percent (2.3 percent in Q1) and the services sector expanded 2.8 percent (3.3 percent in Q1). 

On a quarter-on-quarter basis, the economy advanced 0.6 percent in the second quarter of 2014, down from a 0.9 percent expansion in the previous two quarters.
