French Inflation Rate Steady in June


French annual inflation was reported at 0.3 percent in June of 2015, remaining flat from the previous month and slightly below market forecasts, as a rise in prices of food and services offset a decline in cost of manufactured products and energy.

Year-on-year, cost increased for: food (+0.4 percent), fresh food (+5.2 percent), transport and communication services (+1.5 percent), other services (+1.5 percent), actual rentals and services for dwellings (+1.0 percent), tobacco (+0.3 percent) and other manufactured products (+0.0 percent). In contrast, prices declined for: petroleum products (-7.3 percent), food excluding fresh products (-0.3 percent), clothing and footwear (-0.5 percent) and medical products (-3.5 percent).

On a monthly basis, the consumer price index dropped 0.1 percent in June, following a 0.2 percent rise in the preceding month. Price decreases were reported for: clothing and footwear (-2.0 percent), petroleum products (-0.8 percent), medical products (-0.7 percent) and food (-0.2 percent). In contrast, cost increased for: transport and communication services (+0.7 percent), other services (+0.2 percent), medical services (+0.0 percent), tobacco (+0.0 percent)  and other manufactured products (+0.0 percent).

In June, the core inflation indicator (ISJ) grew by 0.0 percent (after +0.2 percent in May and April) and by 0.6 percent year-on-year (remaining unchanged from the preceding month.

The Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) was down 0.1 percent over a month and up 0.3 percent year-on-year (remaining unchanged from the previous month).
