Germany Unemployment Rate Steady in May


German seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained unchanged at 5.1 percent in May of 2014, while the number of people out of work increased 9,000 to 2.916 million.

In May 2014, roughly 42.1 million persons resident in Germany were in employment according to provisional calculations. Compared with May 2013, this was an increase of 391,000 persons or 0.9%. Hence, the year-on-year rate of growth was slightly down (+1.0% in April 2014). 

According to provisional results of the employment accounts, the number of persons in employment increased by 123,000, or 0.3%, from April 2014 to May 2014. After seasonal adjustment, that is, after the elimination of the usual seasonal fluctuations, the relevant number grew slightly by 21,000 in May 2014 compared with the previous month.
