Russian Jobless Rate at 7-Month Low of 5.6%

Russian unemployment rate was recorded at 5.6 percent in May of 2016, down from 5.9 percent in the previous month. The figure came below market expectations of 5.8 percent and was the lowest October 2015. The number of unemployed people decreased by 217 thousand to 4.3 million.

A year earlier, the number of unemployed people was 4292 thousand. 

The number of economically active people increased by 0.2 million to 76.5 million (52 percent of population). Compared to May of 2015, the figure declined by 0.5 million. 

Nominal wages rose 6.2 percent year-on-year to an average RUB 36570 while real pay fell 1.0 percent. Real disposable income decreased 5.7 percent.
