Greek Unemployment Rate Falls in March


The seasonally adjusted jobless rate declined to 26.8 percent in March of 2014 from an upwardly revised 26.9 percent in the previous month. Although Greek unemployment remains the highest in the European Union, it fell to a twelve-month low in March.

The number of employed amounted to 3,482,345 persons, registering a decrease of 9,972 persons from one year earlier (-0.3 percent), while it increased by 11,857 persons compared with February of 2014 (+0.3 percent).

The number of unemployed decreased 2.3 percent to 1,274,843 persons (29,420 persons less) compared with March of 2013 and declined 0.1 percent by 1,466 persons compared with the previous month.

The number of inactive was recorded at 3,393,042 persons, declining by 7,022 persons (-0.2 percent) compared with March of 2013 and by 14,859 persons (-0.4 percent) compared with February of 2014.
