Germany Unemployment Rate Steady at 4.7%


German seasonally adjusted harmonised jobless rate was recorded at 4.7 percent for the third consecutive month in April. Unemployment fell slightly while employment showed no growth.

Compared to the previous month, the number of unemployed persons edged down 0.5 percent to 1.987 million from 1.99 million in March. Meanwhile, employment was flat at 39.96 million people. 

Compared with April 2014, unemployment fell 5.7 percent while employment grew 0.7 percent.

Youth unemployment rate decreased to 7.2 percent from an upwardly revised 7.3 percent in March and 7.9 percent a year earlier. 

Separate data from the Labour Office showed the number of unemployed persons decreased by 6000 to 2.8 million in May. The unemployment rate remained steady at a record low 6.4 percent.
