German Unemployment Rate Steady at 5.2%


German seasonally adjusted jobless rate came in at 5.2 percent in April of 2014, unchanged from an upwardly revised 5.2 percent in March, provisional figures from the Federal Statistics Office showed. Employment increased 0.4 percent due to the usual spring upturn.

2.26 million people were unemployed in April 2014. Compared with March, the number of unemployed was down by 62,000, or 2.6 percent. Compared with April 2013, the number increased by 14,000, or 0.9 percent. 

In April, nearly 42 million persons resident in Germany were in employment. According to provisional results, the number of persons in employment increased by 166,000, or 0.4 percent in April on March 2014, which was due to the usual spring upturn. Compared with April 2013, this was an increase of 402,000 persons or 1.0 percent.
