Mexico's Economy Expands 0.45% qoq in Q1


In the first quarter of 2013, Mexico´s Gross Domestic Product grew 0.45 percent seasonally adjusted from the previous three-month period, the national statistics agency reported on May 17th.

The primary sector which encompasses the activities related to agriculture, cattle ranching, forestry, fishing and hunting, contracted 1.12 percent.

The secondary sector which includes the activities regarding to manufacturing, mining, construction and electricity, water and gas supply increased 0.15 percent.

The tertiary sector which aggregates mostly commerce and services recorded the highest increase 1.48 percent.

On a year over year basis, the GDP expanded only 0.8 percent, the smallest expansion since the fourth of 2009, when the economy registered a contraction of 2 percent.
