India WPI Inflation Slows in April


Indian wholesale inflation rate decelerated to a two-month low of 5.2 percent in April of 2014 from 5.7 percent in the previous month, as prices of food and fuel slowed.

Year-on-year, food prices eased to 8.64 percent from 9.9 percent in March. Cost of potato accelerated 31.56 percent, fruit prices rose 16.15 percent, slightly up from 16.15 percent in March and rice cost edged up 12.76 percent (12.56 percent in March). In contrast, onion and pulse prices fell 9.76 percent and 0.77 percent, respectively. 

Cost of non-food articles slowed to an annual 3.15 percent (4.62 percent in March); prices of manufactured goods eased slightly to 3.15 percent from 3.23 percent in the previous month and cost of fuel and power rose at a slower 8.9 percent (11.22 percent in March).
