Japan Jobless Rate Drops to 3.2% in March



The seasonally adjusted jobless rate in Japan was recorded at 3.2 percent in March of 2016, as compared to 3.3 percent in February and below market expectations. The jobs-to-applicants ratio stood at 1.30 in March from 1.28 in a month earlier.

A year earlier, the unemployment rate came in at 3.4 percent.

In March 2016, the number of unemployed persons were 2.16 million, a decrease of 120 thousand (-5.3 percent) from a year earlier. The number of employed persons were 63.39 million, an increase of 200 thousand (+0.3 percent) from the previous year.

The labour force  rate grew 0.1 percent from a year earlier to 65.55 million and population aged 15 and over was flat at 110.75 million.

The labour force participation rate increased by 0.1 percentage points to 59.2 percent from 59.1 percent in March 2015.
