Greece Unemployment Rate Falls to 11-Month Low


In January of 2014, Greek seasonally adjusted jobless rate fell to 26.7 down from a revised 27.2 percent in the previous month, but up from 26.5 percent a year earlier. Revised figures showed the unemployment fell for the fourth straight month.

Employed persons amounted to 3,613,826. The number of unemployed was recorded at 1,317,848, while the number of inactive registered 3,386,498. 

The number of employed rose by 40,119 persons compared with December 2013 (+1.1 percent) and decreased by 14,913 persons compared with January 2013 (-0.4 percent).

Unemployed decreased by 17,446 persons compared with the previous month (-1.3% percent), while increased by 6,815 persons (+0.5 percent) compared with January 2013.

Inactive persons decreased by 26,844 persons compared with December 2013 (-0.8 percent) and increased by 9,210 persons (+0.3 percent) compared with a year earlier.
