Greece Unemployment Rate at 2-1/2-Year Low


Greek jobless rate fell slightly to 25.7 percent in January of 2015 from a revised 25.9 percent in the previous month. It is the lowest rate since August of 2012 when it was recorded at 25.4 percent.

There were 1,220,828 unemployed persons in the first month of 2015, 1.1 percent less than in December and down 6.7 percent over a year earlier. 

The number of employed amounted to 3,534,594 persons, up 0.1 percent over December and 1.1 percent more than in January of 2014. However, the number of people neither working neither looking for a job rose 0.2 percent from December to 3,350,597. It edged down 0.1 percent year-on-year.

A year earlier, unemployment was recorded at 27.2 percent.
