Irish Jobless Rate Steady at 6.1%


Irish seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained unchanged at 6.1 percent in March of 2018, after an upwardly revision from the previous rate and compared with 7.0 percent a year ago. It was the lowest jobless rate since May of 2008.

The seasonally adjusted number of persons unemployed was 144,400 in March of 2018, down from 146,300 when compared to February and a decrease of 19,100 when compared to last year.

The jobless rate was 6.4 percent for males, down from 6.5 percent in the previous month and down from 7.3 percent a year earlier; while for females the unemployment rate was recorded at 5.6 percent, down from 5.7 percent February and from 6.6 percent in March of 2017. The number of males unemployed dropped by 1,300 from the prior month to 83,100, while the number of females unemployed went down by 500 to 61,300.

The youth unemployment rate fell to 12.5 percent in March, following a 12.7 percent in the previous month. It was the lowest jobless rate since June of 2008.
