Hong Kong Unemployment Rate Stable at 3.1%


In the period December of 2013 - February of 2014, Hong Kong jobless rate remained unchanged at a 16-year low 3.1 percent. Total employment declined from its historic high, as business activities returned to a more normal level after its peak in Lunar New Year.

The number of unemployed persons (not seasonally adjusted) in December of 2013 - February of 2014 was 112,500, about the same as 112 900 in November of 2013 - January of 2014.  Over the same period, the number of underemployed persons decreased from 51,500 to 46,900.

Unemployment rate for youths aged 15-24 went down from 7.5 percent to 7.2 percent (with around 22,500 unemployed).

Total employment declined from 3.76 million to 3.73 million and labor force also decreased by 3.87 million to 3.84 million.
