Greece Unemployment Rate Falls Slightly


In December of 2013, Greek seasonally adjusted jobless rate decreased marginally to 27.5 percent, compared to a downwardly revised 27.6 percent in November. The figure is more than twice the Euro Area’s average of 12 percent.

A year earlier, the unemployment was recorded at 26.3 percent.

The number of unemployed amounted to 1,349,495, up by 48,551 persons (+3.7 percent) compared with December of 2012, but down by 10,864 persons compared with a month earlier (- 0.8 percent). 

The number of employed at 3,555,034 decreased by 99,226 persons over a year earlier (-2.7 percent) and by 5,418 persons compared with the previous month (- 0.2 percent). 

Inactive persons –that is, persons that neither worked neither looked for a job– increased by 47,229 persons (+ 1.4 percent) compared with December 2012 and by 4,453 persons compared with November 2013 (+ 0.1 percent).
