Pakistan Inflation Rate Almost Unchanged in February


Pakistan annual inflation rate accelerated to 7.93 percent in February of 2014, compared to 7.91 percent in the previous month.

The annual increase derives mostly from prices of food & non-alcoholic beverage (+7.04 percent) and housing, water, electricity, gas & fuels (+9.27 percent). Alcoholic beverage & tobacco prices rose the most (+16.01 percent), followed by restaurants & hotels (+12.56 percent), clothing & footwear (+11.62 percent) and recreation & culture (+9.63 percent).

Compared with the previous month, prices fell 0.32 percent mainly due to a drop in food & non-alcoholic beverage cost. Downward pressures came from prices of tomatoes (-35.23 percent), chicken (-13.85 percent), onions (-10.67 percent), eggs (-4.35 percent), fresh vegetables (-3.66 percent), potatoes (-3.40 percent), fresh fruits (-2.43 percent), sugar (-1.80 percent), tea (-1.44 percent), gur (-1.33 percent), betel leaves & nuts (-0.83 percent), fish (-0.71 percent), mustard oil (-0.32 percent). Prices of kerosene oil and motor fuel fell by -0.60 percent and -0.20 percent, respectively.
