South Korea Inflation Rate Slows to 15-1/2-Year Low


South Korean annual inflation rate eased to 0.5 percent in February of 2015, the lowest figure since July of 1999, due to a fall in prices of industrial goods and fresh food.

Downward pressures came from cost of industrial goods (-0.8 percent) and fresh food (-1.1 percent). In contrast, prices of services increased 1.5 percent while cost of agricultural, livestock and fisheries products rose 1.1 percent.

In January, the inflation rate was recorded at 0.8 percent, the same as in December.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices were flat in February.

Annual core inflation slowed to 2.3 percent from 2.4 percent in the previous month.
