Mexico GDP Growth Slows to 0.3% in Q4


The Mexican economy grew 0.3 percent on quarter in the three months to December of 2018, easing from a 0.8 percent expansion in the previous period, a preliminary estimate showed. The slowdown was mainly driven by a contraction in the industrial sector.

The industrial sector shrank 1.1 percent, after expanding 0.5 percent in the third quarter of 2018. Meantime, the services sector advanced 0.8 percent, the same pace as in the previous period and the primary sector accelerated 1.9 percent, following a 0.4 percent growth in Q3.

Year-on-year, the gross domestic product expanded 1.8 percent, slowing from a 2.5 percent increase in the prior period.

In 2018, the Mexican economy grew 2.0 percent over a year ago.
