German Unemployment Rate Unchanged at 5.1% in December


In December, Germany's adjusted unemployment rate remained unchanged at 5.1 percent, its lowest level in more than 30 years. Youth unemployment fell slightly by 0.1 percentage points to 7.4 percent.

A total of 2.10 million people were unemployed, down by 146 thousand over a year earlier. On a monthly basis, the number of unemployed people declined by 32,000 or 1.4 percent. The unadjusted number of unemployed amounted to 2.16 million. A total of 41.90 million persons resident in Germany were employed.

The number of persons in employment decreased by 201,000, or 0.5 percent, from November. After seasonal adjustment, that is, after the elimination of the usual seasonal fluctuations, the number increased by 23,000 (+0.1 percent) compared with the previous month.
