Mexican Economy Expands 2.5% in Q4


The Mexican economy advanced 2.5 percent year-on-year in the last quarter of 2015, compared to a 2.6 expansion in the previous period while beating market expectations of 2.3 percent, according to preliminary estimates. The services sector was the main driver of growth.

Preliminary estimates showed the services sector went up 3.5 percent accelerating from a 3.3 percent expansion in the precedent quarter and agriculture activities grew by 3 percent following a 4.1 percent growth in Q3. The industrial sector advanced 0.6 percent compared to a 1.2 percent rise in the previous quarter.

On a quarterly basis, the economy expanded 0.6 percent, slowing from a 0.8 percent growth in the third quarter. 

Considering full 2015, the GDP advanced 2.5 percent compared to 2.1 percent in 2014, boosted by growth in services (+3.2 percent), agriculture (+3.1 percent) and industry (+1 percent).
