Exports decreased 3.4 percent (non-seasonally-adjusted) over a year earlier to € 32.54 billion. Sales of energy dropped 30.6 percent yoy while shipments consumer durable goods decreased 3.9 percent and those of intermediate goods shrank 7.6 percent.
Sales to the EU countries fell 0.5 percent and exports to non-EU countries contracted 6.7 percent. The largest drop was recorded for Switzerland (-27.2 percent on the year).
Imports fell 6.9 percent on the year to € 29.46 billion, mainly due to lower purchases of energy (-17 percent) and intermediate goods (-8.2 percent). Imports from the EU countries contracted 2.7 percent while those from countries outside the EU fell 12.3 percent.
On a monthly basis, exports decreased 10.4 percent while imports fell 8.7 percent.
