Spain Inflation Rate Confirmed at 0%


Consumer prices in Spain were flat year-on-year in December of 2015, following a 0.3 percent drop in the previous month and matching preliminary estimates. Transport and housing prices fell at a slower pace while cost of food and non-alcoholic beverages rose slightly more.

Year-on-year, falls were reported for transport prices (-2.8 percent) and housing (-2.3 percent) although the drop was smaller than in November (-4.7 percent and -2.6 percent respectively).

In contrast, prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages recorded the highest increase (1.8 percent), followed by other goods and services (1.7 percent), alcoholic drinks and tobacco (1.3 percent), hotels, cafes and restaurants (0.9 percent), communication (0.5 percent) and clothing and footwear (0.5 percent). 

On a monthly basis, the inflation rate fell to -0.3 percent from 0.4 percent in November, dragged down by a 1.5 percent drop in transport and a 2 percent decrease in clothing and footwear prices. 

The harmonized index declined 0.1 percent on an annual basis and 0.4 percent from the previous month, also in line with preliminary estimates.
