Cost of food and non-alcoholic beverages eased to 6 percent (7.2 percent in November). Food consumed at home and away from home has decreased to 6.6 percent in December compared to 7.6 percent recorded in November.
Prices of clothing and footwear decelerated to 3.9 percent (4.4 percent in November). Health cost slowed to 1.5 percent (2.1 percent in the previous month) and transport cost eased slightly to 8.2 percent from 8.6 percent in November.
In contrast, housing prices accelerated 10.2 percent (8.7 percent in November) and communication prices increased 0.5 percent (0.1 percent in the previous month).
The monthly headline inflation rate accelerated 1.3 percent in December from 0.6 percent in the previous month, while annual inflation rate which excludes food and energy eased to 4.5 percent from 5.3 percent in November.
The purchasing power of 100 Tanzanian Shillings has decreased to TZS 69 and 41 cents in December of 2013 from September of 2010.
