Greek Unemployment Rate Up to 27.8% in October


In October of 2013, Greece jobless rate slightly rose to a new record 27.8 percent, up from a revised 27.7 percent in September. A year ago, unemployment was recorded at 26.1 percent.

The number of employed amounted to 3,597,779 persons in October, a decrease of 94,531 persons compared with October of 2012 (- 2.6 percent) and 21,861 persons compared with September of 2013 (-0.6 percent). 

The number of unemployed amounted to 1,387,520 persons, while the number of inactive reached 3,360,513. Unemployed increased by 85,134 persons (a 6.6 percent rate of increase) compared with October of 2012 and decreased by 1,111 persons compared with September 2013 (a 0,1 percent rate of decrease).
