Germany Inflation Rate Accelerates in December


In December of 2013, German annual inflation rate accelerated to 1.4 percent, slightly up from 1.3 percent in November. Preliminary estimates showed energy cost is expected to surge 1.1 percent, after falling by 0.3 percent in November.

Year-on-year, food prices are expected to rise 3.8 percent, up from 3.2 percent in November and energy cost is expected to surge 1.1 percent. Household rents are expected to accelerate to 1.6 percent (1.5 percent in November). In contrast, prices of services are expected to slow slightly to 1.4 percent (1.5 percent in November). 

On a monthly basis, prices increased 0.4 percent, up from 0.2 percent in the previous period. 

The Harmonised CPI calculated for European purposes is expected to increase by 1.2 percent yoy and 0.5 percent mom.
