Irish Jobless Rate Steady at 7-Year Low


Irish seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was recorded at 8.8 percent in December 2015, unchanged from the revised November rate and down from 10.2 percent a year earlier. The unemployment rate remained the lowest since December 2008, as the number of unemployed continued to fall.

The seasonally adjusted number of persons unemployed was 190,600 in December, a decrease of 700 when compared to the previous month or a decrease of 29,200 when compared to December 2014.

While seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for males decreased to 10 percent from 10.1 percent in the previous month, for females it remained unchanged at 7.3 percent. The number of males unemployed declined by 1,000 to 119,500 from 120,500, while the number of females unemployed rose slightly by 300 to 71,100.

Youth unemployment rate was recorded at 19.2 percent, down from 19.4 percent in November.
