Germany Inflation Rate Slows in December

Consumer prices in Germany went up 0.3 percent year-on-year in December of 2015, lower than a 0.4 percent increase in the previous month and compared to market expectations of 0.6 percent, mainly due to a slowdown in food prices.

Food prices are expected to rise at a slower 1.4 percent (2.3 percent in November), services cost likely grew 1.2 percent, the same as in the previous month and energy prices are expected to fall at a slower 6.5 percent (-7.5 percent in November).

On a monthly basis, consumer prices are expected to drop 0.1 percent, the first fall in three months.

The harmonised index is expected to show a year-on-year increase of 0.2 percent and to remain unchanged compared with November 2015.
