Albania Consumer Morale Remains Below Pre-Pandemic Levels
The consumer confidence index in Albania increased by 3.3 points from the previous period to -18.3 in the third quarter of 2020, as the pandemic shock from the coronavirus outbreak eased. Still, the indicator remained below pre-pandemic levels. There were improvements in the sub-indexes measuring: major purchases (up 8.2 points); the expected overall economic situation balance (up 3.1 points); the balance of income and expenditures (up 1.8 points); and the expected financial situation of households (up 0.1 points).

Albania’s consumer confidence index dropped to -21.8 in the second quarter of 2020 from an upwardly revised -15.4 in the previous period. It was the lowest reading on record, as the coronavirus pandemic hit sentiment. Albania’s consumer confidence index decreased -15.1 in the first quarter of 2020 from -13.6 in the previous three-month period, the lowest since the second quarter of 2014. Expectations over the next 12 months worsened regarding financial situation (5.5 from 6.1 in Q4); general economic situation (0.1 from 3.8); savings (-44.8 from -44.4) and major purchases (-55.5 from -52.3; and unemployment (7 from 2.2).
